Necropolis of outstanding Sunni theologian Imam Muhammad al-Bukhari (died in 870) is near Samarqand. He had phenomenal memory and analyzed hundreds thousand Prophet. His work was resulted in summa of hadiths - "Al-Djami as-Sahih" which had been canonized by the 10th century as a major hadiths anthology in Sunni tradition. The small mausoleum and mosque were built at the tomb of Imam al-Bukhari in the 16th century. In the connection with 1225th anniversary of Imam al-Bukhari and according to decision of Uzbekistan government, a new memorial complex was built in 1998 on the place of old mausoleum.
